S6, Ep6. When Red is sent to a federal medical institution following his request to the court for a psychiatric evaluation, Liz and Jennifer use his time away to search for a Blacklister they believe may have valuable information about Red's past. S6, Ep7.The doctor quickly unraveled all the layers he's tried to envelope himself in over the years. If she knew he was an imposter even if she meant it metaphoricallyhow soon before others figured it out, too?
He doesn't know that Liz knows he's an imposter yet, but he knows his time is running out. And so are his options. Not only was he able to delay the start of the trial, but he was also able to get himself checked into the very mental hospital that he needed to be to get a piece of vital information from a former cohort of his.
You're masquerading. Leading a double life pretending to be someone you're not. If you're divorced from social norms, it's because you're divorced from a side of yourself I can't see because you're terrified of letting other people see it. I don't know.
But whatever pathologies you have, I think it can be traced to the fact that while most people see you as an iconic bad guy? You're really just an imposter. It didn't go as smooth as he had hoped because the guy was drugged up to the hilt, but Red was at least able to get a name.
Whether General Shiro is a real person or just a guy Atticus made up in his messed up mind is something we'll find out soon enough. Red thought how things were going was exasperating, but I'm always impressed with how he's able to problem solve so effectively.
Nice move, Red. Yet, as fun as it was watching Red bamboozle the nurse about birds to switch out the meds, I have to nitpick. I've never been in a mental institution, so I have no idea what it's like inside, but it doesn't seem plausible to me that a facility like that would have a vending machine available to its residents. Most all of the patients, except for Red, seemed pretty strung out.
Also, I can't imagine any of them being able to carry money around so freely because of the danger of swallowing the change, the possibility of fights or stealing. I don't begrudge any TV show for doing what it needs to do to advance a story, and The Blacklist has done a lot of stretching in its time, but the vending machine was too convenient.
Still, it wasn't all easy for Red. I don't think he wanted to leave the facility so early, but Red's perceived "saving" of the doctor got him discharged back to the court. Things will start moving quickly now, and Red is getting desperate which may make him vulnerable in unexpected ways. What I don't understand is why he's not trying to find out who called the police rather than continuing to search for people who knew him way back when.
Has he somehow connected the dots and figured out that whoever left the tip must have some knowledge that he's not who he says he is? I also wish he would stop talking to Liz. He doesn't need to tell her every little thing he's doing and why. He never did before so why is he doing it now?
Liz is getting craftier, but she doesn't have enough experience to play the big con yet. She's still running on emotions which are going to cause her to make the very mistakes she did this hour.
As much as it pains me to say it, it was pretty gutsy of Liz to lie about a case so the Task Force could get her the information she needed. She pulled a Red, and it was impressive. She bamboozled him into trusting her, and unless Ressler is fooling all of us, he has officially aligned himself with TeamLiz. Ressler can have Liz and Jennifer. The three of them together are no match for Red and Dembe.
And with Harold and the rest of the Task Force on Red's side because you know that's how it'll bethe only thing those three will be doing is sitting on the outside looking in. I'm not quite sure why Jennifer was so upset about Liz letting The Ethicist kill himself in exchange for the name of the nurse. I think Jennifer is starting to realize that Liz is more like Red than she wants to admit, but neither of them is innocent. In this season finale of The Blacklistthe entire Task Force manages to escape detainment under the eye of the Justice Department within their own super-secure Post Office facility, including briefly being locked inside their patented titanium gold alloy box; they stop an assignation on the president that was ordered… by the president; then they find out he was actually planning to assassinate his wife; and in approximately a one-minute transition, they expose said president for said attempted murder and force him to resign….
Ultimately though, the season 6 finale turned out to be quite the romp — and everyone was down to risk their lives and careers for the sake of our entertainment oh, and to protect the super skeevy president of the United States, I guess.
McMahon reports to President Diaz that she has everyone in custody except Reddington and Keen, and pinning the assassination attempt scheduled for later that day should be no problem. And yet…. The idea that the president was conspiring to have himself assassinated, and that his wife was not only on board with that plan, but proud of him for it was a nut I was so eager to crack, I just let it slide.
And for once, everything goes exactly as planned.
While McMahon licks her chops about finally pulling one over on Reddington, Aram, Ressler, and Cooper just waltz right out of their cells and through one locked door after another, as Tadashi coaches Liz on how to unlock them from the server room. Well, it mostly goes like that. There is a truly violent shootout where people are grabbing for guns and ducking behind cars, and where absolutely everyone works for the government and should not be shooting at each other.
Sanquist finally throws a flash grenade at the van pouring out gasoline, and the Task Force team has to run for cover before it explodes. McMahon is shot through the head from behind…. Oddly, this is not the only man to express his unconditional love for Raymond Reddington in this finale. He also must be important because he and Red express their mutual adoration and trust with one another. Who is this man???
Because it is quite fun to watch Donald Ressler set up a little salt-and-pepper-shaker recreation of the debate layout and have his eureka moment. Ask the First Lady why her husband would have tried to have her killed and framed it as a failed attempt on his own life. Apparently, a few months before the primaries that eventually saw Diaz elected president, they were on vacation, Diaz got behind the wheel after drinking too much and hit a woman and her son.
Instead of going to the police, they paid a fixer to cover it up. But covering up murder never sat well with the First Lady, and she began begging her husband to do the right thing and come forward with the truth.
Uh, in The Blacklist world, that is. And what of that president-slaying fugitive? Red keels over and a car zooms over, two men hop out, load him up, and drive away. Do you mean to tell me that was Katarina Rostova, famous Russian spy, former lover of Raymond Reddington, former something to Fraymond Freddington, and she is alive?
And she incapacitated Red the moment she saw him, with a car just ready and waiting to whisk him away??? So was that an example of the malice Liz has long feared in her mother? The potential danger that made her keep Agnes away — Agnes, who she just brought back home because Red assured her Katarina was no threat. So, do we finally put that theory to rest now? This ending clearly raises more questions than I answers. So what did you think of the season 6 finale?! Is Katarina Rostova really still alive?
Is she a good spy or a bad spy? Who are these people that drive bodies for her at the drop of a hat literally in the middle of the night? Sound off in the comments!
